Dear Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Reid, Minority Leaders Boehner and McConnell

Posted by TeamITI on February 2, 2009

ustravelassociation1The U.S. Travel Association (formerly known as TIA) did and continues to do its part to make known the importance of the tourism industry as an economic driver by appealing to our leaders in Washington. The following “Stimulus-Letter” was sent on January 23rd:

Dear Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Reid, Minority Leaders Boehner and McConnell:

America’s economy is in desperate need of solutions. By embracing travel – welcoming more visitors into the United States and improving the ability of Americans to travel for business and leisure purposes – Congress can create jobs, drive spending and provide the American economy with the rapid and meaningful boost it needs at the federal, state and local levels. On behalf of the $1.7 trillion travel economy that employs nearly 20 million Americans, the U.S. Travel Association offers support for many of the funding proposals included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (outlined below) and urges Congress to add two key stimulative items:

  • Authorize the creation of a travel promotion program to attract millions of additional international visitors and deliver billions in new spending for the economy; and
  • Invest necessary funds to transform the current air traffic control system into a 21st century system that will deliver economic growth and enhance national mobility for travelers.
